HOMEMADE FLAVORED COFFEE SYRUPS



Homemade Flavored Coffee Syrups image

Skip all the excess added sugars and artificial flavorings and make your own homemade flavored coffee syrups. Sharing our recipes for Vanilla, Almond and Coconut Flavored Coffee Syrup.

Number Of Ingredients 11

8 oz water
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup sugar
1 whole vanilla bean
8 oz water
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp pure almond extract
8 oz water
2 tbsp sugar
1 cup shredded coconut, unsweetened
1 tsp coconut extract ((omit if you cannot find))

Steps:

  • Combine the water, sugar and honey into a small sauce pot on the stove.
  • With a knife, carefully open the vanilla bean and scrape out all the seeds. Place the seeds into the pot, along with the entire remaining vanilla bean
  • Turn heat to medum-low and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves (about 3-5 minutes)
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool completely before placing in container (about 1 hour coolign time)
  • Combine water, sugar and almond extract into a small saucepot on the stove. Heat over medium heat and allow to come to a full boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce heat low to low and cook for additional 3-5 minutes before removing from heat and allowing to cool completely
  • In a small pot, combine the water and sugar and heat over medium heat.
  • Allow water sugar mixture to come to a boil, then stir in the coconut flakes (and coconut extract if using)
  • Remove from heat and allow to sit in pot for 1 hour
  • Strain liquid to remove coconut flakes. Place in a clean saucepot and bring to boil again. Remove from heat and allow to cool fully before placing in jar or container.

VANILLA-ALMOND COFFEE



Vanilla-Almond Coffee image

This recipe is perfect for any coffee lover. Instead of buying flavored coffees, I make my own using flavored extracts for baking. You can prepare this with decaffeinated coffee, too.

1 pound ground coffee
2 tablespoons almond extract
2 tablespoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Place coffee in a large jar with tight-fitting lid. Add extracts. Cover and shake well. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark and dry place or in the freezer. Prepare coffee as usual.

ALMOND SYRUP



Almond Syrup image

This syrup is delicious over fruit or ice cream. It can also be used to sweeten hot or cold drinks.

Yield Makes 1 quart

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 cups blanched whole almonds (10 1/2 ounces)
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract

Steps:

  • Place almonds in a medium bowl and add 2 cups warm water. Let stand at room temperature for 2 hours. Transfer soaked almonds and water to a food processor and process until pureed, about 2 minutes.
  • Pour puree into a cheesecloth-lined sieve over a bowl and press hard to extract as much liquid as possible. Pour 2 more cups warm water over almonds and press again to squeeze out more liquid. Discard solids.
  • Pour almond milk through a fine sieve into a saucepan, add sugar, and stir to combine. Simmer over low heat until liquid reaches about 180 degrees on a candy thermometer, about 1 hour. Stir in almond extract.
  • Pour syrup into a clean 1-quart glass bottle or jar, let cool, and cover. Syrup will last, refrigerated, for up to 3 months.
