12-Minute Old-Fashioned Ham Steak with Maple Gravy image

This Old-Fashioned Ham Steak is ready in 12 minutes and is simmered on the stove top in a delicious maple gravy. Ham steaks are an easy, quick weeknight meal as they are already fully cooked

1 fully-cooked ham steak (approximately 1 pound)
4 Tablespoons butter
2 Tablespoons flour
3/4 cup water
4 Tablespoons real maple syrup
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce

Steps:

  • In a large frying pan, heat butter over medium heat until hot.
  • Add ham steak, and heat for 4 to 5 minutes on the first side; flip and heat for 2 to 3 minutes on second side.
  • Remove ham steak from pan; put on a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
  • Lower heat to low; add flour to butter and stir for 1 minute.
  • Add water, maple syrup, Dijon mustard and soy sauce. Stir constantly, scraping up the bits from the bottom of the pan. Stir for 2-3 minutes or until gravy is thick and smooth,
  • Add ham steak to gravy, and heat until desired temperature (approximately 2 to 3 minutes).
  • Serve with warm biscuits.

1/4 cup agave
3 tablespoons water
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • Pan-fry ham steaks on both sides in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Place ham on heated serving dish set aside. Add agave, water, ginger and cloves to skillet bring to a boil. Simmer 1 to 2 minutes. Brush sauce over ham serve with remaining sauce.

1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Wisk water and cornstartch together in a medium size bowl to prevent splashing.
  • Add brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, and salt and stir until blended.
  • Pour over ham steak and bake for 20 minutes.
