EASY HOBO TIN FOIL DINNER RECIPE

These easy hobo tin-foil dinner packs will be what your kids remember eating while camping for years to come!

1 pound steak (or ground beef)
4 potatoes (peeled and cubed)
2 cups carrots (thinly sliced)
1 onion (diced)
salt and pepper, to taste
Worcestershire sauce (to taste)
½ cup barbecue sauce
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Use a large square piece of aluminum foil for each tin foil dinner. Spray foil with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Separate ground beef into 4 equal patties, or steak into 4 servings, and place in the center of each piece of foil.
  • Divide potatoes, carrots, and onion evenly between all 4 dinners and place on top of meat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, to taste. Pour a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce on top of each dinner and fold foil up tightly around the entire meal.
  • Cook on a grill on medium-high heat or an open fire for 25-30 minutes, or until vegetables and meat are cooked through.
  • Open foil carefully and top with BBQ sauce and shredded cheese.

Please refer to the individual recipes listed in the "directions" section if choosing to make these packets! There's no right way to enjoy a sausage, but if you want a little direction the co-hosts from The Chew show you their favorite toppings and combinations. When Michael made these packets on The Chew his drizzled olive oil on all the packets. This came from The Chew.

1 kielbasa
1 tablespoon caraway seed
1 onion (sliced)
1/2 bunch parsley
1/2 cup sauerkraut
1/4 cup beer
sausage
carla's favorite grilled sausage
1 andouille sausage
1/4 lb new potato
1 ear of corn
1/4 cup chicken stock
grilled sausage (Clinton's Favorite)
1 hot and sweet Italian sausage
1 red bell pepper (cored and then seeded and sliced)
1 onion (sliced)
1/2 bunch basil
1/4 cup white wine
grilled sausage (Daphne's Favorite)
1/4 lb oyster mushroom
2 zucchini (sliced)
1 onion (sliced)
salt & freshly ground black pepper
1 dash white wine
2 sprigs thyme
bun (Hoagies)
spicy mustard
whole grain mustard
stadium mustard
extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Preheat grill to high heat.
  • Michael's Favorite Grilled Sausage: Arrange the ingredients in foil packet. Drizzle with olive oil. Seal and grill for about 30 minutes, or until onions are tender.
  • Carla's Favorite Grilled Sausage: Arrange the ingredients in a foil packet. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Seal and grill for 20 to 30 minutes, or until potatoes are fork tender.
  • Clinton's Favorite Grilled Sausage: Arrange the sweet and the hot italian sausages in the foil packet with the other ingredients. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Seal and grill for 20 to 30 minutes, or until sausage is cooked through and peppers have softened.
  • Daphne's Favorite Grilled Sausage: Nestle ingredients in foil packet with a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt. Grill until vegetables are tender.
  • To Serve: Serve each variety on a hoagie garnished with desired mustard.

I used to make this frequently when we went camping and everyone always liked it.

1 to 1.5 lb beef round steak, 1/2 inch thick
10 oz pkg. frozen peas
4 medium carrots
4 medium potatoes, peeled
1 can(s) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 envelope onion soup mix
8 cherry tomatoes

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 450 degrees. Cut meat into 1-inch pieces. Place frozen peas in colander or sieve; run cold water over peas just until broken apart; drain.
  • 2. Tear off 4 pieces of heavy-duty aluminum foil, each 18x15 inches. On center of each piece, place 1 carrot, thinly sliced, 1 potato, cut into quarters, and 1/4 of the meat.
  • 3. Stir together mushroom soup and onion soup mix; spoon soup mixture over meat in each foil package and top with peas. Wrap securely in foil; place on ungreased baking sheet.
  • 4. Bake 50 minutes or until meat is tender. Just before serving, garnish each dinner with two cherry tomatoes, halved.
