3 Minute Whole Wheat Bread image

This is too simple, and no bread machine required. This makes a beautiful and really healthy bread. I was really skeptical when a friend gave me this recipe but the result was great. The 3 minutes is prep time it does take an hour to bake.

Number Of Ingredients 8

7 g dry yeast (packet)
2 cups milk (warm or you can also use warm water)
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup unbleached flour
3/4 cup flax seed (actually any whole grain what ever you like flax seed, sesame seed, sunflower seeds, or walnuts etc.)
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons sugar or 2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons vinegar

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl dissolve the yeast in warm milk ( not hot).
  • Add the rest of the ingredients (very important, do not forget the vinegar) and stir well.
  • Pour dough into a 5 x 9 loaf pan.
  • Place into a cold oven and turn the heat to 400°F.
  • DO NOT LET THIS DOUGH RISE BEFORE PUTTING INTO OVEN AND OVEN IS COLD.
  • Bake for 10 minutes then cut a slit in the top of the dough.
  • After 40 minutes of baking you can brush the top of the loaf with butter or an egg wash.
  • After 60 minutes reduce the heat to 350°F then bake another 50 minutes.
  • Remove the bread from the pan and bake another 15-30 minutes.
  • Bread is done when it sounds hollow.

I'm 12 years old and make this bread with my mother, who got the recipe from her mother. I usually make the dough, and my mom bakes it.

Yield 2 loaves (16 slices each).

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
3 cups warm water (110° to 115°), divided
3/4 cup canola oil
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tablespoon salt
7 to 7-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups whole wheat flour

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in 3/4 cup warm water. Add the oil, sugar, molasses, salt and remaining water. Combine flours; add 4-5 cups flour to mixture. Beat until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a firm dough. , Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour., Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half. Shape each portion into a loaf. Place in 2 greased 9x5-in. loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. , Bake at 350° until golden brown, 40-45 minutes. Remove from pans to cool on wire racks.

  • In a large bowl combine flour, yeast, and salt. Whisk to integrate. Add 1⅝ cups water and stir until blended. Dough will be shaggy and sticky.
  • Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let dough rest at least 12 hours (preferably about 18 hours) at warm room temperature, about 70 degrees.
  • Dough is ready when its surface is dotted with bubbles. Lightly flour a work surface and place dough on it. Sprinkle it with a little more flour and fold it over on itself a few times. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rest about 15 minutes.
  • Generously coat a cotton towel (not terry cloth) with flour. Using just enough flour to keep dough from sticking to your fingers, shape dough into a ball. Put dough seam-side down on towel and dust with more flour.
