1970s Chex Mix Recipes

THE ORIGINAL CHEX PARTY MIX (1966)

Steps:

• Heat oven to very slow (250 degrees F).
• Melt butter in a shallow pan over low heat.
• Stir in Worcestershire sauce and seasoned salt.
• Add Chex and nuts. mix over low heat until all pieces are coated.
• Heat in oven 45 minutes.
• Stir every 15 minutes.
• Spread out on absorbent paper to cool.

ORIGINAL CHEX MIX

Steps:

• Preheat oven to 250°F.
• Heat Butter in large 8-quart pot until melted and add seasoning salt and Worcestershire sauce and set aside.
• In large bowl, measure all 3 cereals, nuts, and pretzels and mix together.
• Add dry ingredients to butter mixture and stir until evenly coated.
• Place mixture in a large pan (I usually use my roasting pan) and bake for 1 hour, stirring approximately every 15 minutes.

ORIGINAL CHEX® PARTY MIX

Steps:

• In large microwavable bowl, mix cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips; set aside. In small microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High about 40 seconds or until melted. Stir in seasonings. Pour over cereal mixture; stir until evenly coated.
• Microwave uncovered on High 5 to 6 minutes, thoroughly stirring every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool. Store in airtight container.
